Sites are hosted on Netlify's global CDN. Your pages are static files served from an edge location near the visitor, which is why they load quickly even on a phone on mobile data. There is no database to be slow, and no PHP process to fall over when a few people visit at once.

Your site is on HTTPS and stays there. The certificate is issued and renewed automatically, so it cannot lapse and scare off visitors.
Deploys and rollbacks
An edit is live in under a minute, and a bad change can be reverted instantly rather than restored from last night's backup.
Nothing to maintain
No plugins to update, no PHP version to migrate, no security patches to chase. There is very little surface area to attack or to break.

Your domain stays yours
I do not take ownership of your domain name. It stays registered in your name, on your account, and you can point it anywhere at any time. This matters more than people realise, and it is worth checking who currently controls yours.
If you leave
You keep the domain and all of your content and assets. I retain ownership of the codebase, which is available to buy out on exit at a quoted price. Because the site is hand-written HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no proprietary dependencies, a bought-out site can be handed to any developer and hosted anywhere that serves static files.

Common questions
Who owns my domain name?
You do. It stays registered in your name, on your account, and you can point it anywhere at any time without my involvement. A business that loses access to its own domain because a former web guy registered it under his own account has a genuinely expensive problem.
What happens if the site goes down?
Static files on a CDN have very little that can break, which is most of the point. There is no database to fall over and no PHP process to exhaust. If something does go wrong, a bad deploy can be rolled back immediately rather than restored from a backup.
Do I need to do anything to keep it running?
No. SSL renews itself, deploys are automatic, and there is no software to update because there are no plugins. This is the practical benefit of not building on WordPress.
Can you host a site somebody else built?
Sometimes. If it is static or can be made static, yes. If it is a WordPress site or needs a database and server-side code, this is not the right hosting for it and I will tell you so instead of taking the money.
What happens to hosting if I cancel?
Hosting ends at the close of your final paid period. You keep the domain and all of your content. The codebase is available to buy out at a quoted price, and I will help you move to a new host.
