FOR LANDSCAPERS

Websites for landscaping and lawn care

Landscaping is the only trade on this list where most of the money is recurring. That changes what the website should be optimised for, and almost every landscaping site in North Jersey gets it wrong.

You are selling a subscription, so sell it like one

A weekly mowing account is worth far more over five years than a one-off patio install, and it costs you almost nothing to keep once you have it. Yet most landscaping sites lead with photos of retaining walls and bury the maintenance contract at the bottom of a services list.

If recurring maintenance is your bread and butter, the site should make signing up for it the easiest action on the page. Named packages, what each includes, roughly what it costs, and a way to start. Homeowners will absolutely sign up online for lawn care if you let them. Most local competitors are still making them call during business hours.

Your traffic swings wildly by season, and that is predictable

Search volume for lawn care in North Jersey collapses in December and explodes in March. Spring cleanup peaks in a narrow window. Leaf removal spikes for about six weeks in autumn. Snow removal spikes the day before a storm.

Because it is predictable, it is plannable. The site should surface the right service at the right time of year rather than showing the same static homepage in February that it shows in June. On a managed plan that seasonal rotation is part of the included edits, which is one of the clearer cases where the monthly plan pays for itself.

Snow removal is a separate business with a separate customer

The homeowner searching for snow removal at 9pm before a storm is in a completely different mindset from the one planning a spring garden. They want to know if you are taking new accounts, whether you do driveways or just commercial lots, and how fast you show up after a snowfall.

Snow deserves its own page, kept live year round. People search for and sign contracts in October, not January. A page that only appears in winter misses the entire signup window.

Photograph the boring work too

Landscapers naturally photograph their most impressive installs: paver patios, retaining walls, lighting. Those are worth showing. But the customer who is actually going to fund your year is looking for evidence that you cut a lawn cleanly and edge it properly, week after week.

A few well-shot maintained properties convert more recurring accounts than a portfolio of showpiece hardscapes. Show both, and do not let the showpieces crowd out the everyday work.

What belongs on the site

  • Maintenance packages with clear inclusions and pricing, and an online way to sign up
  • A dedicated, year-round snow removal page
  • Seasonal services: spring cleanup, mulching, leaf removal, aeration and overseeding
  • Hardscaping and install work shown separately from maintenance
  • Your service area by town, since routing efficiency depends on density
  • Whether you are licensed for pesticide application, if you are
